I always assume Amy Sedaris is a household name and am shocked when someone doesn’t know who she is?? it feels like a personal affront. A formative memory from an extremely impressionable time in my life (8th grade) is going with my family to the 6th&I in DC to see her give a book talk about her book “Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People.” At the time, I only knew of her brother David, whose stories my dad read to me and I loved how much he enjoyed them. But I was still an angsty hormonal unmedicated and severely unregulated tweenager and definitely started a fight in the car on the way over. Despite all my fuming, I sat for the show and was transfixed. I’d never experienced someone speak and engage an audience like Amy sedaris did. I felt… seen? And the book!! My goodness I love it so much. So like yes I rec Amy sedaris
